Our class this year is composed of first and second graders. We have a wonderful mix of children. Each has something special to share with the class.

To promote a spirit of community and cooperation in the classroom, we have adopted a class identity. Our group will be playfully known as the “owls”:

   Outstanding
   Wonderful
   Learning
   Students

I love working with children and am eager to meet your family. This is my sixth year of teaching. I have taught in both public and private elementary schools and have even helped start a Montessori school in Syracuse, New York. My Montessori training is extensive and includes both the E1 and E2 level. I graduated from Macalester College and earned my master’s degree in Elementary Education Curriculum Design from Hamline University, both in St. Paul.

Children in my classroom will have plenty of opportunities to explore the arts. I like to use book making, puppetry, music, and theater to inspire learning. Many of the projects I use in the classroom came from my experience teaching book making to school groups at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts in Minneapolis.

I live close to Nokomis Montessori Magnet with my husband and two children. We love this area and enjoy spending time hiking in the woods and exploring museums. My daughter is going into third grade this year and my son will be in kindergarten, so I have plenty of experience working with young children in and out of the classroom.

It is important for families and teachers to work together. If you have questions or concerns about your child, please feel free to call or e-mail me. The best time to reach me by telephone is in the morning before school starts between 8:30-8:55. You can also e-mail me at jennifer.harrison@spps.org. I will do my best to return calls and e-mails promptly. I will also be sending a monthly newsletter to communicate with you and let you know what is happening in the classroom.

Mission For The Class

Our goal this year is to learn together and develop a strong classroom community, so that each child enjoys school and makes strong academic progress. Each person in the classroom will listen, use respectful behavior, offer help, share talents, and try their best.
